All About Me

My name is Marissa and I am currently completing my Bachelor of Education After-Degree (Middle Years).  I have a previous Bachelor of Arts, concentration in both Psychology and Women’s and Gender Studies.

A few snippets about me:

  • I love to read – most of my book collection consists of memoirs and autobiographies.  A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is one of my favourites.  The truly saddening and heartbreaking story of a child soldier in Sierra Leone is not a book I would recommend to everyone, however the words of Ishmael Beah have given a voice to children of war who have otherwise been silenced.
  • I am an avid traveller – I love to visit places around the world as a way of understanding and experiencing different cultures.  I have travelled to Europe, Hawaii (twice), Mexico (multiple times), Dominican Republic, many American states, and to some beautiful spots in CANADA!  Banff, Alberta is one of my favourites.
  • Along with travelling, I love to hike.  Enjoying nature can be a very enjoyable and peaceful experience.

This blog will be a place in which I reflect on my journey as a student as an aspiring middle years educator.  I hope to use a classroom blog in the future as a way to reflect on classroom experiences, create a collaborative community amongst students and the school, genuinely integrate technology into learning, and easily connect with parents/guardians in a way that contributes to student achievement.

Some of the blog pages here will be specifically developed for university courses.  Other than that, I hope to use this blog as a way to progress as a pre-service teacher interested in technology, reflect on my thoughts and ideas related to teaching, and connect with others as a way to build my personal learning network.
